Implementation quality review
This review covers the native transformer, lifecycle, exports, tests, generated documentation, and automation. The primary baseline is Stylelint File Progress 1.0.1. ESLint File Progress 2 supplies the original display conventions and attribution. Existing remark plugins supply the native configuration and typing conventions.
Runtime comparisonโ
Display settings and seven presets match Stylelint 1.0.1, with an RFP prefix and Markdown filenames. The controller supports terminal redraws, file-driven frames, Windows Unicode transport, worker capture, escaped terminal controls, best-effort writes, and process shutdown summaries.
The adapter is a synchronous unified transformer. It observes a VFile without changing its tree, messages, or output. Shared function identity across module formats lets unified merge duplicate registrations. Reusing a VFile in another processing run records another event. The controller does not retain a permanent set of VFiles.
Validation runs before observation, copies settings for each processor, and throws a configuration TypeError for unsupported input. No lint diagnostics are invented for progress, and no problem totals are inferred from exit status.
Verification designโ
Unit tests cover defaults, every option, summary policies, clocks, paths, and process boundaries. Unified tests cover repeat processing, cloned and concurrent processors, messages, and AST identity. Real remark CLI subprocesses compare output and exit status with progress enabled and disabled, including colored reports, stdin, JSON trees, custom reporters, rewriting, ignored inputs, and syntax extensions.
Packed consumers exercise both module formats, seven preset subpaths, declarations, minimum/current host versions, and exact Node 22.0.0. Coverage thresholds remain 90% for statements, lines, functions, and branches. TypeDoc requires every discovered public reflection to be documented.
Tooling and documentation comparisonโ
The repository uses the published shared configurations, strict TypeScript, npm 12 lifecycle allowlisting, synchronized Node files, generated tables, 31 deterministic colored demos, and Docusaurus. ESLint, Stylelint, and remark inspectors expose configuration under the deployed site base path. Check commands compare generated content without rewriting tracked files.
The adapted infrastructure contains applicable plugin tooling. The package has no CSS rules, PostCSS adapters, CLI wrapper, Electron tooling, application database scripts, or unrelated rule benchmarks. The documentation parser override remains limited to Docusaurus and is verified by malformed-image regression checks.
Local verification resultsโ
The initial implementation passed npm run release:verify on Windows with Node 26.7.0 and npm 12.0.2. The coverage report includes all runtime modules, including the native plugin entrypoint and option validator. The shared console reporter hides fully covered file rows; the JSON and LCOV reports retain them.

Review corrected the unified type boundary so the package uses the consumer's unified peer instead of imposing a nested current version on minimum-version consumers. It also retained Vitest 4.1.11 because the published shared Vitest configuration has a ^4.1.0 peer contract. The repository keeps an isolated-install proof using empty npm user/global configuration and the committed lifecycle allowlist.
Compared with the Stylelint adapter, remark intentionally counts every transformer invocation instead of deduplicating PostCSS processing results. Mixed module formats share a canonical callable function, allowing unified's own registration merging to prevent duplicate transformers. These host-specific differences are tested rather than hidden behind a generic wrapper.
Delivery boundaryโ
Review also added a single-read snapshot for accessor-backed options and isolated the registry by installed version. These prevent unvalidated second reads and an older installed version replacing a newer plugin's metadata or behavior.
The Windows console writer was retained after checking Node 22's libuv implementation. Its terminal write path emits text through WriteConsoleW before queuing the completion callback. The real CP437 probe showed complete shutdown summaries on both streams. Moving output to beforeExit would permit premature summaries in long-lived processors; raw descriptor writes would reintroduce the legacy-code-page regression.
Version 0.1.0 was initially delivered without publication and was subsequently published by the maintainer. CI retains Linux, Windows, and macOS coverage, strict quality and package checks, CodeQL, dependency/security scans, Codecov OIDC uploads, and Sonar quality analysis. Release automation validates a committed version and exact tarball before an authorized publication.
Verification reports, workflow links, and the final main SHA accompany task completion. An unavailable integration is a named setup blocker, never a passing analysis. Shared remark configuration adoption followed in remark-config-nick2bad4u 2.0.0, using the published progress plugin.
Public-site verification found that inspector navigation worked in the browser but refreshing a nested route returned GitHub Pages' 404 page. The documentation build now supplies an HTML entrypoint for every static inspector route, and the documentation gate checks those entrypoints alongside their startup icons.
Version 1.0.0 presentation reviewโ
The presentation was compared directly with ESLint File Progress 2's formatter. Directory segments now cycle through the same five bold colors, separators and activity labels are dim, and the filename stem has separate emphasis from its extension. Spinner, prefix, status, and detailed-summary colors also match. Subsecond durations use milliseconds.
ANSI regression tests cover exact styles, the directory color cycle, filename extensions, Windows and POSIX paths, escaped controls, and summary metrics. The real CLI tests compare colored reporter output at 80 and 160 columns. All 31 demonstrations use the updated runtime; the static SVG preview now preserves the GIF renderer's palette, bold text, and dim text.
The native remark contract remains unchanged: complete lines, one event per transformer execution, no animation timers, no reporter or stream patching, and no inferred problem counts. Public exports, options, presets, Node minimum, and Vitest 4 compatibility remain stable.
Review also covered terminal control sequences containing path separators. The formatter strips complete ANSI sequences before choosing the path grammar, then escapes remaining literal controls within each segment. Regression tests cover relative and absolute Windows/POSIX inputs, both color modes, and basename output.
Local version 1.0.0 verification on Windows passed 104 tests with 100% statement, line, and function coverage and 95.65% branch coverage. The initial results above remain the historical baseline.
Version 1.0.1 terminal reviewโ
The redraw behavior was compared with the ESLint controller and its nanospinner renderer. Interactive output now replaces the previous display, including the shared config's two-line filename layout. Frames remain driven by observed files, without animation timers or stream patching. Redirected output continues to use ordinary lines.
Redraw ownership is checked against both process streams' byte counts and terminal dimensions. Intervening reporter output, resizing, unknown geometry, and displays taller than the viewport prevent clearing. Unicode grapheme widths account for wrapped paths without changing terminal dimensions. Direct descriptor writes cannot be observed through stream counters and require progress to be disabled by the embedding application.
Terminal-emulator regressions cover successive files, multiline and wrapped Unicode paths, combining accents, both streams, interleaved colored diagnostics and partial lines, resizing, hidden summaries, throttling, and compact frames. Real remark CLI runs verify that diagnostics remain visible at 80 and 160 columns. All 31 casts and GIFs are regenerated; the static preview is captured from an emulated live terminal screen.
The complete locked dependency graph reports no known vulnerabilities. The shared ESLint config now resolves eslint-plugin-actionlint 1.0.6, which replaces adm-zip with filtered extraction of the expected executable. Coverage thresholds and security gates remain unchanged. The dependency lint rule allows only string-width in the root manifest: the suggested fast-string-width 3.0.2 measures a zero-width space as a visible cell, which can erase an unrelated terminal row. A wrapped zero-width-space filename regression protects this requirement.
Review also verified redraw with stdout redirected to a regular file and protected unrelated stream errors while progress writes are pending. Only errors delivered to a progress write callback are absorbed; unrelated host errors retain their existing handlers or unhandled-error behavior. Compact-mode documentation distinguishes interactive events from redirected output. Raw descriptor writers and nonstandard character-width settings remain documented embedding boundaries, with summary-only mode as the compatible alternative.
Local 1.0.1 validation passed 133 tests with 100% statements, lines, and functions and 96.04% branches. The complete release gate passed, including all seven packed preset subpaths, both module formats, minimum/current remark hosts, strict declarations, all 31 demo integrity checks, and the Docusaurus build. An isolated npm 12 install passed with empty user/global configuration and the committed lifecycle policy.
Documentation and dependency reviewโ
The documentation portal now follows the polished Stylelint File Progress layout, with ESLint File Progress and Typefest as presentation references. The dedicated homepage includes package badges, linked technology pills, feature cards, a static terminal preview, optional animated playback, seven colored preset cards, and connected ecosystem links. Guides use five colored sidebar groups, local search, balanced footer columns, and edit links that lead to their real source or generator.
A shared documentation catalog supplies the README badges, generated preset tables and pages, navigation, and homepage data. The existing 31 recordings remain protected by deterministic cast and integrity checks. The setup, troubleshooting, and resources guides explain native unified registration, process-wide summaries, reporter streams, and the three embedded inspectors without copying Stylelint rule syntax or cache claims.
The dependency refresh retains Vitest 4.1.11 and incorporates remark-config-nick2bad4u 2.0.0, stylelint-config-nick2bad4u 4.0.1, jscpd 5.2.0, and Node 22 declarations. The repository now gets remark progress directly from the published shared config. Installation with empty npm user/global configuration passed, and the complete locked graph reports zero known vulnerabilities.
Local verification retained all 133 passing runtime tests, 100% statements/lines/functions, 96.04% branches, and 38/38 documented public members. Packed ESM/CommonJS consumers passed with both host profiles on Node 26.7.0 and exact Node 22.0.0. Browser review covered desktop and mobile layouts in both themes, with no horizontal overflow or page errors.
