Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew
An outdoor residential option for listed feeding insects on ornamentals and garden crops. The owned product 250, 32 fl oz ready-to-use bottle contains spinosad 0.001%, EPA 4-472. These directions are for that bottle, not the concentrate or Super Soap.
Best fit
- Especially useful to consider for identified thrips, caterpillars, leaf-feeding beetles, or leafminers on labeled outdoor plants.
- Spider mites are also listed for outdoor ornamentals.
- The ornamental pest list does not list mealybugs, aphids, or scale. For those common collection pests, compare the other guides instead of assuming the Deadbug name covers everything.
How to use
- Apply outdoors in a sheltered spot suited to the plant. If taking a houseplant outside for treatment, avoid sudden strong sun on indoor-grown leaves or stems.
- Shake well and use directly. Do not dilute or add another product.
- Wet both leaf surfaces to the point of runoff, following the directions for outdoor ornamentals. Keep runoff out of drains. Choose calm weather.
- Allow time to work. Feeding can stop before insects die several hours later. An insect visible immediately afterward is not a reason to spray again.
Recheck and limits
For outdoor spider mites, treat early, before webbing, and reapply after 7–10 days for newly hatched nymphs as needed. Edible crops have separate intervals and limits in the label table.
Protect bees for 3 hours after treatment: do not spray flowering, pollen-shedding, or nectar-producing parts if bees may visit during that period. Choose a 24-hour rain-free window.
Fit for this collection
Keep this as an outdoor-use option in the arsenal. For indoor treatment of the Peperomia, oyster plant, cacti, or mesembs, first compare products whose labels include indoor houseplants. Before wider use on an unfamiliar specimen, a small trial area is a practical way to check its response. Keep treatment records separate from purchase quantities; an already-used bottle alone does not tell us which plants were treated or when.
