Grow-room dehumidifier and air purifier
Last updated: 2026-09-20
The TABYIK dehumidifier removes moisture; the Levoit purifier handles airborne dust and pollen. Use room readings to judge their effect. Two pole-mounted fans provide continuous rotating canopy airflow; two additional Honeywell fans below the tables run on Low with A22-controlled cycles of unrecorded duration.
Owner-Confirmed Operating Record — September 20
The dehumidifier is currently running directly from a wall outlet, not from the A22. The A22 controls fan cycles only. The two under-table fans are the purchased Honeywell HT900 and an older, slightly larger Honeywell of unknown model; both are set to Low. The owner's roughly six-inch/nine-inch size estimates are not verified dimensions. The canopy fans' continuous operation is a separate record.
Reported room conditions are approximately 45–50% RH and temperatures in the 70s °F. The owner identifies a VIVOSUN TH1GS sensor alongside the A22 probe. The two probe locations are the far pair of wooden tables and the wall at plant height, with roughly two inches of the wall probe's free end leaning away from the wall. The exact probe-to-device assignment is unconfirmed. The body's internal sensor is on a shelf about two feet from the cacti. The current display uses four 16 × 13-inch wooden tables; the round glass table is no longer in use. These are location descriptions, not a calibration or evidence that all sensors read identically.
The Levoit LV600S humidifier is off, pending winter use. The operating table below is earlier condition-based guidance; the September 20 record above gives the devices' reported running state.
Current equipment
| Device | Verified details | Role in this setup |
|---|---|---|
| TABYIK DH-CS01 dehumidifier | Thermoelectric/Peltier unit; one speed; 1,000 mL tank; 41.67 W; 5.9 × 5.9 × 10.1 in; advertised 28 dB; automatic stop around 700–800 mL | Currently running from the wall outlet; evaluate against room readings |
| Levoit Core Mini-P (Amazon listing) | Model LAP-C161-WUS; 7 W; 34 CFM CADR; 6.5 × 6.5 × 10.4 in; 25–44 dB; 360° intake; three-stage particle/carbon filter; ozone-free | Low-level dust and pollen removal for the room and camera area |
TABYIK advertises up to 450 mL/day, but that test is at 86°F and 80% RH in a confined space. The open grow area normally targets much cooler and drier conditions, so actual collection may be a small fraction of that claim. The advertised 280 ft² coverage is not a reason to expect whole-room humidity control. This unit has no humidistat, target-RH setting, drain hose, or timer.
Levoit rates the Core Mini-P for 254 ft² at one air change per hour or 53 ft² at 4.8 changes per hour. It removes airborne particles and some odors; it does not lower humidity and does not replace the oscillating canopy fans.
Starting placement
Historical guidance for the earlier table arrangement: the geometry below predates the current four-table layout and the removal of the round glass table.
Start both devices beyond the second wooden table on the open-room side, outside the nominal 60 in plant bay and the grow light's direct footprint. The 24 in round table plus two 16 in table depths nominally uses 56 in before gaps and leg interference, so the remaining space is not an appliance bay. This placement keeps the devices away from the window, watering work, camera view, and strongest paired-fan sweep.
- Put each appliance on its own rigid, stable board or shallow waterproof tray above the loose floor Mylar. The Mylar is a carpet liner, not a basin.
- Put the Core Mini-P on the divider side of the room-end space. Keep its 360° intake open and its top outlet unobstructed. Do not tuck it against the divider fabric or Mylar.
- Put the DH-CS01 on the white-wall side, but rotate it so the rear intake faces the open room rather than the wall. Leave at least 6 in behind that intake as a conservative starting clearance and keep the top exhaust clear.
- Leave roughly 8–12 in between the two appliances so one exhaust does not feed directly into the other's intake.
- Keep the temperature/RH sensor at canopy height between plant surfaces. Do not place it beside either appliance; intake or exhaust air would make the reading less representative of the plants.
- Keep both adapters, plugs, and cable connections outside watering paths. Route each cord with a drip loop before it reaches a floor-level adapter or power strip.
These are starting positions based on the measured 36 × approximately 60 in bay and three end-to-end surfaces. Record the real fit and cord reach before treating them as final. If either unit narrows the aisle or causes a cable crossing, move both farther toward the open room rather than squeezing them beside a table.
Simple operating plan
This is the earlier condition-based operating guidance, retained separately from the September 20 owner-confirmed running state above. It does not describe a current automatic controller program.
| Sensor or room condition | Core Mini-P | DH-CS01 |
|---|---|---|
| Normal 30–55% RH | Low continuously; lights-on hours only is also fine if the nighttime noise is annoying | Off |
| Repotting, dusty top dressing, or bringing plants in from outside | High for 30–60 minutes after cleanup, then return to low | Off unless the humidity rule also triggers |
| Brief RH maximum above 60%, but the current reading and 24-hour minimum return below 55% | Low | Off; this is a short spike, not sustained humidity |
| Current RH is above 60% at both a morning and evening check, or the 24-hour RH minimum remains above 60% | Low | Run for 12–24 hours, then check current RH and tank collection |
| Condensation appears or current RH remains above 65% | Low | Run while the room is closed, inspect for wet trays or another moisture source, and recheck after several hours |
| Current RH reaches 45–55% after a dehumidifier run | Low | Turn off and observe the next 24-hour range |
| Current RH is below 35% or the 24-hour minimum falls below 30% | Low or off | Off |
Do not start the dehumidifier automatically after every watering. Empty the pot trays, keep normal airflow, and let the sensor show whether the room actually stayed humid. A short post-watering maximum above 60% is acceptable if the current reading and 24-hour minimum return to the normal band.
Repotting and handling perlite can create fine dust. Run the Core Mini-P on high only after the work surface is cleaned and all loose medium has settled, then return it to low. Do not use either canopy fan to blow repotting dust through the room or into the purifier.
The DH-CS01 works best in warm, humid conditions; the listing gives 59–95°F as its suitable range and says performance becomes more obvious as humidity rises. If it runs for 24–48 hours during genuinely high humidity without producing a useful RH drop, the open room is beyond this small Peltier unit's practical capacity. Fix the moisture source or use room HVAC/a humidistat-equipped compressor dehumidifier instead of running the mini unit indefinitely.
Leave the Core Mini-P aroma pad dry. Essential oil is unrelated to plant or particle care and would add an unnecessary variable beside the collection.
August 4 commissioning check
This commissioning procedure was written for August 4. It can also guide a comparison after changing appliance placement; it is not a recurring care task.
- With both new appliances off for at least an hour, record current temperature/RH and the 24-hour ranges.
- Start the Core Mini-P on low. Confirm its outlet does not move plant bodies, top dressing, labels, Mylar, or the camera cable.
- Function-test the DH-CS01 power button and indicator. Do not pour water into the tank to simulate a full condition; verify the automatic-stop behavior naturally if a real humidity run eventually fills it. Leave it off after the short test unless the humidity table above calls for a run.
- After 24 hours, record the same sensor values. If the dehumidifier ran, also record its runtime and approximate water collected.
- After 72 hours, confirm neither adapter is unusually hot, both intakes are clean, the aisle remains clear, and no cord can enter a watering path.
A short before/after comparison helps show whether the appliances affect this room's conditions.
Maintenance and safety
- Empty and dry the dehumidifier tank after each run. Its automatic shutoff prevents overflow from a full tank; it does not protect the appliance from a watering spill.
- Discard collected condensate. Do not use it as cactus water; it can contain dust, microbes, and residues from the appliance.
- Check the dehumidifier's rear intake and top outlet monthly during use and remove visible dust with the unit unplugged.
- Inspect the Core Mini-P prefilter monthly in this soil-and-top-dressing area. Follow its check-filter indicator and manual for replacement. Do not wash the filter media unless Levoit explicitly permits it.
- Unplug either device before moving it, removing the water tank, cleaning an intake, or working on nearby cords.
- Keep at least one clear walking path out of the grow corner. Do not trade electrical safety for a few inches of theoretical air treatment.
